1st Canto (12 AM) neon asphalt glows orange, like christ, easter Sunday calvary portrayed as a busted streetlamp transformer hums uselessly trying to glimmer one last ray of hope 2nd Canto (2:30 AM) it's am 2:30 all is quiet on n. bernedotte st dare I leave my post to piss? the last driver taxis in for a landing & angry railroad curs Snap and yowl over something dead 3rd Canto (4 AM) i think the cars are mocking me their cruel chrome & empty headlights flash taunts & temptations feather beds silk gartered whores pork roasts & gallons of wine 4th Canto (dawn) the radio tower beckons red against a pinking sky at last in the cool clear of morning the dogs of heaven fall silent as chains of sleep hang broken from my eyes the lamb of god cries out for vengeance, parsley & mint jelly sauce |
